For as long as I can remember I have been drawn to stones, minerals and crystals. I began collecting stones at the age of four while growing up in the San Bernardino mountains of Southern California. The national forest was my backyard and my father encouraged much exploration into its secrets and its beauty. At a very young age I learned a deep respect, admiration and love for the mountains and the natural world that was buzzing with life all around me. Everything in the forest was so alive and even the trees, the water, and the very stones seemed to speak to me.
I also cannot remember a time when I did not pray. I was raised by both my parents to believe in God and the classic Bible stories with their lessons of faith and devotion were among some of the first stories introduced to me. My father was a spiritual seeker who eventually became a devoted Christian always living what he believed (and still doing so to this day). I was raised always with the teachings of Jesus as my foundation. This has remained with me, as I have deepest love and admiration for the teachings of Jesus, even if, (after reading through its entirety more than once) not all other aspects of the Bible resonate with me in the same positive way.
With a degree in fine art from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design I have worked as a professional artist selling my art and photography since my late teens. In my twenties and early thirties I focused mostly on drawing and nature/landscape photography. At age 24 I moved from Minneapolis to Vermont. I fell in love with the green mountains here and the vast areas of virtually untouched natural beauty. I spent several years hiking the mountains, discovering all that Mother Nature had to offer here and photographing it. Through my business at the time, “Visions of Vermont”, I sold framed prints and cards of my photographic art all over Central Vermont for over ten years.
As I moved into my late thirties and early forties I found myself focusing more on painting in acrylics- my subject matter revolving always around spiritual or biblical themes, myths or dreams. At that time I started to move more and more away from the landscape photography (that I had focused on since about the age of 16). I also began to sell my drawings and paintings online. In 2011, I opened my first shop on Etsy, selling my paintings and drawings as well as showing them locally in art shows and galleries. I also began a serious daily practice of yoga and meditation as a way to center myself through the tumultuous time of my divorce from my partner of 15 years.
In my early forties I felt a renewed sense of connection and calling to work with stones and I began to create one of a kind jewelry pieces featuring various natural crystals. Again, my inspiration came from the natural world with ocean and forest/tree themes running through the pieces I would create. I began to sell my jewelry online in 2013.
Around this same time, my interest grew in the spiritual aspects, energies and traditions associated with different crystals and stones, and I eagerly began learning all that I could. I was interested in the science behind crystals as well, (if you are also interested, this article is a great place to start: https://remedygrove.com/bodywork/The-Incredible-Science-Of-Crystals ).
Meanwhile, I continued an ongoing study (begun during my college days) of various spiritual ideas and practices (including but not limited to), Buddhism, Native American Shamanic Traditions and other ancient spiritual practices which honor and revere the Earth, the Moon, and the stars. These traditions view every living thing on Earth (and indeed even in the entire cosmos), as being energetically and spiritually connected by an overseeing universal consciousness of love and light.
As my explorations with crystals continued, I began to feel a desire to work with them in new ways. I had noticed in my studies of crystals that many energy healers who use them also utilize wands that have been carved from the crystals themselves in their work. The shape of the wand is used to concentrate and focus the positive energies of the crystals and that of the healers working with and through them. The idea of crystal wands and the possible forms they might be able take began to intrigue me. The concept of utilizing several different types of crystals in one healing wand in order to combine and amplify their effects was something I wanted to explore.
I began to work with the natural elements of wood, copper, and crystals combined with clay and paint to produce my own unique style of crystal healing wands. Because of my love for the ocean and my belief in it’s wonderful healing properties, I also began to incorporate shells or beach glass into the wands. Drawing from the Native American Traditions I had studied earlier I decided to incorporate animal totems into some of the wands as well. This is a way of invoking the power and the spirit of the animals within the wands, and bringing another level of story to the wands. As a young child growing up in the Southern California mountains I was always fascinated by the totem poles there which are created by the Native American artists of the area. Each totem pole tells a unique story- a history of a special person or event. They have a magic all their own for which I have the deepest respect.
Each wand produced is a completely unique, one of a kind, handmade creation. As with all my art work, each wand is produced through a stream of consciousness process. While making a wand, each step along the way determines the next step to come and no plan or blueprint is ever followed while making them. It is a very meditative/dreamlike process when I create a new crystal wand.
Each wand arises out of a place of deep peace and love from within me. Many prayers are said during the making of each wand, and each wand is blessed and spiritually charged. I believe that the love and healing energies of God, the Earth, the Moon, the Stars and all living creatures of the cosmos hold a small place and reside within each wand. In this way I see the wands as a great aid in prayer or meditation practices, as well as a help in releasing negativity or anxiety.
I have been asked if my wands could be used to cast spells. I do not use them for this, but I suppose they could be if someone has a wish to try to use them in this way. It is not really their purpose, however, I think it is fair to assume that the attempt to cast any negative spells with my wands of love and light would be grossly ineffective. Each wand is made with the sole intent and purpose of magnifying love, peace, understanding, healing and light within every individual being in which it comes in contact.
It is also my goal and hope that each wand is very high quality, well made product that is also extremely beautiful as well; a piece of art in and of itself.
I thank you for taking the time to read this statement and I wish you much peace and many blessing today and into the future. Kimberley Greeno -Oct. 15, 2018
